ISLAMIC, Persia (Post-Mongol). Zands. Muhammad Karim Khan, AH 1164-1193 / AD 1751-1779. 1/4 Mohur (Gold, 18 mm, 2.70 g, 4 h), type C, Kirman, AH 1178 = 1764/5. The Zand couplet and the date, ‘shod āftāb-o māh zar-o sim dar jahān, az sekke-ye emām-e be haq sāhebozzamān. 1178’ (‘The sun and moon became gold and silver in the world / From the coin of the rightful Imam, the Age’s Lord. 1178’ in Persian). Rev. Within an ornate cartouche, ‘zarb-e dār al-amān Kirmān’ (‘Struck in the Abode of Safety Kirman’ in Persian); above, ‘yā Karīm’ (‘O Generous One’ in Arabic). Album 2791. In NGC encapsulation, graded MS 61. The only example graded by NGC. Extremely fine.
